We want to get to know other Cultures and have time for personal reflection without the rigors of day to day society getting in the way. We expect and look forward to hard work and the satisfaction that comes with it.
In reguards to my husband, he does have some experience with machinery and tractors, but will probably need a refresher course as it\\\\\\\'s been a while. The last one he was on was a small rental earth mover type tractor (obviously I don\\\\\\\'t have much experience...I don\\\\\\\'t know what they are called!) He has a background in FFA, 4H and medium to small scale farming. My husband has over 10 years of construction, maintenance, repair, and landscape experience. He worked with his father\\\\\\\'s do-it-all company for several years before venturing out and trying his hand at his own company. Sadly it fell through because of a long winter and lack of funds.
While I may not have the experience he does, I am willing to learn. I am also a good cook, and what I haven\\\\\\\'t tried cooking yet, I could learn quickly. Growing up on a farm/ranch I witnessed and assisted many tasks that could come in handy. I watched the butchering on cattle and swine, I assisted in the butchering/plucking of chickens, I fed and cared for cattle, swine, and chickens; I built and maintained electric fences, and I worked in the family garden from start to finish every season.
aims: To gain experience in organic farming, permaculture, and alternative living. To experience life outside the USA and get to know other cultures. To support and gain insights into alternative living. To learn, have fun and meet new people.
the kind of food we eat: As most Americans, we are trying to eat healthier, but it can be difficult when the healthy food is expensive and the junk food is cheap. We both eat meat, but are not opposed to vegetarian foods. We prefer poultry and pork to beef.
do we cook: Both-Yes
Do you drive? My husband drives, but I choose not to.
Where are you at right now? We are in Arizona.
What is the ideal situation that you are looking for?
· length of stay: At least a month, possibly several if we feel an affinity for one another.
· degree of independence: We are both highly independent and able to work without constant supervision. We are also both very literate and are able to work from written instructions if need be.
· monetary needs and availability: We are not expecting to make a profit while we are volunteering/interning, but will need money for basic needs. We can save and allocate for travel costs to and from and hopefully save for incidentals. Worst case scenario, one of us can get a small part time job while we are there.
· Interest in relocating outside the USA: We both have a very strong interest in relocating, which is partially why we want to volunteer/intern outside the USA. However, we do plan on traveling for the next few years off and on, so unless an opportunity arose where we could make a good enough living to save for such adventures, we must remain in Arizona.
